What is Trigger Point Massage?

Trigger points are sensitive areas of tight muscle fibers that form in your muscles after injuries or

overuse. They can sprout up all over your body (but are often found on your back). Areas of the

muscle tighten, which is why they are also referred to as muscle knots. Applying pressure by

rubbing and pressing on these areas can release muscle tension and knock out the stubborn knots.

During a trigger point massage, your licensed massage therapist will seek out muscle knots and aim

to loosen those muscles. They will use broad strokes combined with strong, deep pressure to relax

and release tightness. The process is repeated several times until your massage therapist feels as

though the tension is gone.

Your licensed massage therapist will be aware of areas where trigger points are commonly located.

Be sure to let them know where you are experiencing pain during the initial consultation.

Benefits of Trigger Point Massage

Trigger point massage can release the tightest areas of your body, helping to improve range of

motion, posture, and alignment while relieving pain. Your certified trigger point massage therapist

will focus on the locations connected to where the pain occurs to provide relief. Trigger point

massage therapy can often help people suffering from headaches, neck and shoulder tension, and

chronic back pain.
